I was wondering how tubists mostly use the higher-pitched tubas (Eb/F). It seems that they are available in two distinct classes: Rather small, such as the many old American Eb tubas, and the fewer types of small F tubas. Then, there are the large examples, such as the "monster" Eb tubas, and the 6/4 size F tubas.
It would seem that the small ones would be useful for solos, and for an instrument between a euphonium and BBb/CC tubas. The large ones may be useful as a compromise all-around tuba.
How about it. What do you look for in an Eb of F tuba? And, why would you choose an Eb or an F?
