So, thanks for all the comments some lines down the board. Doesn't sound too encouraging as far as the actual and future tuba position is concerned - now that also the "synthetic" basses add on the competition.
However, fortunately E-basses and keyboards as yet don't seem to conquer the fields of philharmony, symphony, opera - and widely marching bands on the other side, but I wonder, if the tuba is sharing the obsolete grammophone fate with some delay - and gradually be just of historical interest and value.
In consequence: Would you advise your kid(s) to learn playing the tuba by having the future in mind - or rather convince considering one of the modern technology basses?
I'd dislike to imagine seeing our desirable horns ending up in museums in some decades!
