Whether marching band has any relevance or not is not up to the educators or the students. When you see some frat guy -- who never, ever attends a concert by any of his school's ensembles (except to maybe score some points with a date) -- put his stereo speakers in the window of his room on game day and blast out the fight song in Dolby 5.1 turned up to eleven, or some 70+-year-old tear up at hearing his alma mater because it reminds him of when he met his late wife at college...
Soudns relevant enough to me. Music is for the listener, dammit.
