No, I don't think it's bad to double IF you keep in mind the physical implications and allow for compensation. For me personally, low brass doubling (e.g. tuba, tbone, euph, baritone) seems to result in minimal negitive effect, where as much high brass/low brass doubling seems to produce some results that require a great deal more work to over come.

As far as CC vs F mpc and effect, although a person might use a smaller mpc on the smaller horn, it's not as an extreme difference as, say, trumpet to tuba. The flow rates and apperature are more similar than dissimilar, thus resulting in less disturbance in feel and set-up. That being said, you (at least I) can still feel the difference between a CC and an F, but it is in the same "ballpark", if you will, and causes much less accomodation in playing approach than switching from high brass to CC.
