I just bought an Amati pocket trumpet for use at my elementary school and as a curiosity with the elementary kids. they love it! They are always asking if they can play it in lessons. I am not a trumpet player although I can play it enough to teach it. The sound is a bit darker more like a cornet, even though it uses a trumpet mouthpiece. It sounds fine to me although I would imagine a professional trumpet player would notice some problems with it. Although it can't be any worse than a student line horn. the valves on mine work great and the workmanship on it is surprisingly high. not like the old Amati Baritone we have at our school. Perhaps they have improved their manufacturing a bit since they have to compete in the real world now that the iron curtain is down. I just think they are cute!
