My Alex (model 156) was rotary. In F. Not at all similar to French C tuba. Fingerings as per my eariler post: 1 2 3 are normal but in the left hand, 4 is flat 3, 5 is flat 2 and 6 is like a fourth valve--4 5 6 being in the right hand. It was known as a very good horn, my particular instrument was spectacular--Floyd Cooley could verify that for you. Alexander is on Bahnhof Strausse in Mainz, Germany, they have a web site. They look like any normal F tuba except for the valve configuration. And one needs to know obviously that the left hand has the three main valves. If I had a scanner I could send you the catalog photos as well--they are placed side by side with the other F tubas in the old catalogs.
