scrub the stuff off with the (rough side) of a sponge?? How about taking the instrument to a qualified repairman to get the slides buffed clean, and how about having it dunked in what ever chemical they happen to be using for a wash. If you use an abrasive on the slide it will be roughing the surface and will not move with the ease that it should. If there are so many deposites on the slides that they are completely stuck perhaps the student should not be even messing with the repair. There sure is alot of incomplete information flying around by this boy.
