I would stay away from UK made helicons. Not that I am against UK made instruments. After all I have 10 of them, but sousaphones and helicons are not the areas, where the Brits have excelled.
If you can afford a reasonable medium sized instrument, then I cannot see any reason why you should waste money on an interim inferior instrument.
Nobody should jump into a Monica, Yirschl, or Yorkburner level beginners' instrument investing. But there are no reasons to start out with an instrument, which would be anybody's last choice.
