I think that if you look into how much most administrators for funds at Non-Profit organizations (Executive Level), you would be VERY suprised.

I, for one, do not fault most of them. On average, they still make far less than similar positions in for-profit companies.

While he should be held accountable for his performance and his pay should be tied to that, don't expect people with real responsibility and training who put in an excess of 40 hours a week for a Non-Profit to do this for nothing or next to it. These people do have real credentials, experience, and training, and are usually paid appropriately for it.

Someone mentioned IRCO (Red Cross) the other day. You can bet that there executive board and upper management does very well for itself. If those non-profit organizations didn't pay well, then they would get "low-bidder" management and employees. Then even more of our charities and especially groups like orchestras would be in trouble.

Besides, if the Louisville Orch. goes under does this person keep their job?
Probably not.

Remember, the only real difference between a "Non-Profit" and a "For-Profit" is the tax forms they fill out at the end of the year. One has to spend it's profit or appropriate for future use, the other doesn't.
