How Mr. Vanni played the orchesteral repertoire on this tuba is still a mystery to me. The pitch is rather low and I still have not found a compatable mouthpiece for the tuba. The horn needs some work. It has that old Cerveny style bumpers that are on top of the rotors and the bumpers need to be replaced. At one time, the horn was laquered (rather poorly I may add) and it needs to be stripped. The valves have been replated, most likely that was done in the late 1950's. The valves are set on the side on this horn, underneath where the right hand is placed to operate the valves. The levers move up and down instead of across the horn like modern instruments. I have no clue when this instrument was made.
