I've been playing tuba for 9 years now, and am a second year student at the University of Colorado. I am not a music major, but play in various bands and ensambles around. I'm finally looking for a tuba of my own, having learned on Yamaha's and an Instructors Meinl-Weston. I need something with a bit of personality (don't we all), a dark, open sound, that is still relatively nimble in the upper register. I prefer the German style of sound, and really enjoyed the MW that I played occasionally in High School. I've been looking a bit at the Mirafone 186 (4vr) and an old Alexander (163, circa 1960, 4vr) for sale from brasswind. Still open to suggestions/offers, though. Any opinions/ideas?
