so i'm graduating from high school this year and am trying to prepare myself for the world of employment. I've been talking to my teacher about how hard it is to get a tuba job out in the "real world". My worst fear is to be one of those 25 year old students that STILL doesn't have a job...its kinda scary, when do they give up? My teacher told me that it is considerably easier to win a band spot than it is an orchestra spot. According to him, orchestras pay better and its much MUCH harder to win, because those are the jobs that the "good players go for" ??? he said in a service band the repetoire is better, but the pay isn't...AND its much easier to win one of the band jobs. I know there's much older, wiser people here that might be able to give me some advice on how to win one of these orchestra jobs. Why do all the "good players" go for the orchestras and not the bands? any advice or comments would be really appreciated. Thanks
