I agree about the practice, or just face time. When I play a C (I usually play BBb), I have to change my brain a bit. I'm accustomed to certain fingerings lining up with certain pitches. The F is far enough away from Bb that my brain can make the switch, but the notes on a C just sound really sharp, and I automatically try to correct. After a little while, my brain gets reoriented and it goes away. Some days are better than others in that regard. I therefore don't like rapid switching between C and Bb tubas.
