A friend of mine told me about a trick to stop leaks that Alex Cauthen had showed him (sorry if I'm giving away your secrets, Alex!). Alex used clear fingernail polish around the ferrules of my friend's unlaquered 188 where he suspected some air might be escaping. It made a huge difference in the way the horn played.
