Many items of some rarity (which includes nearly all tubas) require the patience to connect the right seller with the right buyer. On items of plentiful supply and abundant demand, the prices should theoretically be stable. But even these will be somewhat variable on ebay. On tubas, the prices vary dramatically for instruments of similar value. Finding the right buyer is like a movie, where selling on ebay is just a snapshot. It fits with the fast-sale objective, but not with the highest-price objective, unless you are lucky.
