One thing I discovered while at Midwest in Chicago was that if you took a small shank trombone mouthpiece and put the shank of trombone moutpiece into the shank of the tuba mouthpiece it gives you some resistance while buzzing. I play trombone so I have a bunch of different sizes of mouthpieces and that is how I change resistance. I am sure you could find an old small shank student model bone mouthpiece layin around somewhere. I don't use this often, but I think its a fairly interesting way to get resistance while buzzing.
