I think that part of the point may also be that playing an instrument is an art and that intonation, although measureable, is still somewhat subjective in practice. If Jay played for a number of people to whom the scale appeared to be in tune, it doesn't matter if any software says that it is in tune! If we play with an ensemble and the sound blends properly, it doesn't matter if a scientific evaluation would say that some instruments are out of tune with each other. If it sounds good that's all that should matter! We play for people, not computers! (And I have a Master's degree in electrical engineering)
