How much should I pay???????

I am currently looking to purchase a second hand euphonium for my son.

I have just noticed on an online auction, a 1967 Boosey and Hawkes Imperial 4 valve compensating euphonium. The current high bid is $920. How far should I bid for an instrument of this age. I don't want to blindly bid an throw away money. If someone could give me a guide I would appreciate the help.
