The role of conductors

who has been a life-changing conductor to you? I don't care if they are famous or not...I just want to hear how they managed to touch you.

I'd have to say my most awe-inspiring one was Dr. Frederick Fennel. He is a real treat to play under! Never can have enough brass, but it is always tasteful. What really moved me though is that no matter the piece of music that shall be played, he never uses a score. He takes the time to KNOW the music. I wish I had that with some of the others...(did I just say that? must've been an opinion!) anywho...the greatest thing was whenever he would finish with us, he would ALWAYS (and I mean even at the concert) say "thank you" to us, and we would return his thanks with applause. It was a great experience just because of that.

i'm looking forward to playing under Reynolds in a few months, anyone have any input on him (I hear he can slave over one measure for a LONG time).
