This is no more a trick than high range trumpet or trombone is a trick. Playing it on a BBb simply involves learning to play musically in the high register.
You could use a piccolo trumpet to play scream parts, but most trumpets extend their high ranges instead and use a regular Bb horn. Why not do the same on tuba? After all, we learn pedal tones instead of having to use a sub-contrabass tuba for extreme low range. There's no real need to go to a small horn if you (a.) can play the part comfortably and musically and (b.) you don't have a small horn.
I have nothing against using a euphonium, either. I used to practice Bydlo on euphonium, too, both in standard register and up an octave for high register practice. Unfortunately, I sounded terrible in the high register on euphonium, and would have never played that high in public.
