The nickel SHOULD NOT turn black when you hold it. My guess is that the Russian company that makes these bought an inferior lot of Nickel in order to cut costs. Take a look around any large band or orchestra, and you will see many of the french horn players have nickel instruments, and at best they get a dull look as they get old. Granted, there is often clear laquer over the nickel, but even as it wears off the horn doesn't "go black." Even the higher end Yamaha tubas have nickel valve slide sleeves, and after the laquer wears off they don't go black. What is most likely happening is that the oils in your hands are acting as a catalyst to whatever is reacting with the nickel and turning the horn black. My guess is that if the horn sits unattended for a while, it will go black, your hands are only speeding up the process. If the horn was a fifty year old silver horn that hadn't been cleaned in a while, the blackening would be expected. This should not happen in your particular case.
