Marcel Tabuteau developed a "mechanical/methodical" method of playing phrases musically.
Though this might seem odd, it served well those who were less intuitive about shaping a phrase, and many many oboists (and other musicians) teach and use Tabuteau's phrasing method to this day.
In addition, Tabuteau is about 100% responsible for the "American scrape" style of oboe reed that blends more with flutes, rather than sounding like a shawm or a trumpet.
