For a student entering college in the U.S., buying an Eb or F tuba for your main (only?) instrument is a bad idea.

Preston, you should first figure out how much money you are willing to spend. Often you can use school loans to pay for your instrument, as it is considered an "educational expense". Once you have an idea of your price range, you should browse some of the instrument dealer websites that Sean has linked from this site. When you have a few horns in mind that fit your price range, you need to figure out where you can go and try some out. Your future college teacher would probably be more than willing to suggest some reputable dealers/individuals in your area that may be selling horns that fit your situation.

It all boils down to which horn gives you the sound you like- there are good and bad BBb's and CC's, pick one that helps you.
