Indeed it is a beautiful horn. But most folks know from my postings that the intonation on this horn leaves a little to be desired (at least when I play it). After letting the horn sit collecting dust, I picked it up and, on an impulse, stuck two sousie bits and a mouthpiece on it. Much to my surprise, the intonation improved dramatically--it was far easier to get the problem notes (F#, Bb) lipped into tune (I'm not much of a slide puller).
I figure that the leadpipe's just too short on this baby, probably someone forgot to do their homework and account for the 5th valve. One of these days,I'm going to try a longer leadpipe and see what happens. I may keep the beast after all--the tone out of this thing is really nice.
