some first hand advice on looking for horns. Do not put out a horn because of what people say about it. any horn by any maker has the possibility of being a great horn. Don't buy a horn before consulting your future tuba teacher. 6 months ago I purchased a MW 2145. I tried several Pt-4's, MW's, and Miraphones of those models. Every horn is different, even from others of the same model. Do you have an ideal sound that you hear in your head? That is the first step. Second, when your looking for a horn, close your eyes, feel the horn in your lap, the slides, etc. When you play it, does it produce the sound in your head without you having to work hard for it? Don't buy a name, buy a horn for what is in your hands. I love my horn, and I am glad that I used this advice from my teacher.
