He was simply relaying information, not "dissing." I think it's important for people trying to study with Gene to realize that the greatest tuba players don't always make the greatest teachers. I'd simply advise those thinking of studying with him or any other major player to use discretion when selecting a teacher. Take a lesson and find out for yourself!
