The British Euph players solve that problem by removing the back bore of the mouthpiece. Take it to a machine shop and ask them to chuck it up and drill straight through from the small end that you insert into the horn. Years ago Mr. Draper, then the chief engineer at the Boosey and Hawkes Factory in Edgeware told me the only purpose of the backbore is to make the instrument equally stuffy in all registers and that it should be bored out by professional players to increase the amount of air flow in the low register. It will also make the tone more mellow in all registers.
