I started it back in 1995 or so, while an hourly with Indiana University's University Computing Services. It was hosted there for a bit until I registered chisham.com and moved it.
The BBS was purged regularly until late 1998. Around that time someone mentioned how it would be of benefit to keep old posts around. I went ahead and started to archive them by month and year. Later it became obvious that it was difficult to navigate the old posts as they were piling up fast. So I compiled and configured a free search engine in an afternoon.
Since I started to archive, there have been close to 43,000 posts to the BBS. Before that around 7,000 were lost to purging. There are around 20,000-30,000 hits/day from all over the world accessing TubeNet as of today. The number of hits have doubled about every 18 months or so.
