I am biased because I do all my work on either an HB4C (BBb) or a Willson 3400 (EEb). I have played F and relearning it would not be a problem but I see no need to. I have played symphony gigs on the EEb and Jazz gigs on BBb and could use them interchangeably. I prefer the EEb because I am an old man and it is three pounds lighter than the BBb but, for Wagner, I would insist on the BBb although there is no practical difference in the range of the two instruments. The sound quality is, however, different. In my day in HS bands. We used BBb tubas on the lower divisi and EEb on the upper and everyone played all the unison parts. This will get the lightness of tone you are seeking but it will not get your students experience on an F tuba or give you an excuse to practice F instead of cutting the lawn or cleaning the gutters. But, H___, play what you want to.
