I stand corrected! Boy the law is a strange thing. I read things in the copyright law that wasn't there. I didn't fully understand the concept of work for hire. After reading the Ownership section of the copyright law, and the subjection on Work-for-hire in my mind the term "work-for-hire" clearly meant that if you paid someone to do some work it was work-for-hire, regardless of whether it was an employer or a contractor. After reading the legal difinition of work-for-hire (which basically said for contractors, if it says in the contract that it is a work for hire then it is; if doesn't say it, then its not) my understanding is much clearer.
