Sorry, idiots may make poor decisions, but I stand by my statement. There are all kinds of reasons someone might want a tuba; as a professional tool, as a hobbyists toy, as a restaurant decoration, etc. Whoever wants it the most, and is willing to pay the most (regardless of whether their decision process meets your approval or mine) will pay the most. Should we have a committee to decide who is smart enough to bid? What if, in their judgement (this is not mine, please understand) YOUR motives are stupid.
Freedom is a great thing, even if it sometimes costs more. If the most you ever have to pay for your freedom is a more competitive price for a musical instrument, count yourself (as I count myself) fortunate indeed.
