I tried one this past weekend at SERTEC in Lexington. After placing the headphones on, and blowing a bit, I asked the rep if it was turned on. He said it was on and turned up. I could heardy hear anything (it was a loud room). It would still probably work well as a hotel-room practice mute (turned on or not).
