I haven't heard this particular recording, however, there is a practice where the 1st tuba will switch to euphonium for the end of this piece. Usually, if the conductor wishes octaves in the Dies Irie (sp?) section, the 2nd tuba will play this on a CC and the first player on an F. Then, as the dreaded lick approaches, the 2nd player switches to F and the 1st to Euph.
I believe that Mr. Schmitz in Boston prefers it this way.
