Congratulations on your comeback. I came back 2 ½ years ago after a 22-year break. I bought a 4-valve Bbb tuba sight unseen from Baltimore Brass, then started in on an elementary method book. At first it was discouraging, but after two or three months of daily practice I was comfortable enough to join a community band. The first summer in community band was stressful–it had been a long time–but now it’s just fun. I have since sold that first tuba and upgraded to a different tuba. It takes time to learn about the available horns and get an idea what is best for you, so think of your first horn as a starter horn. But look for a quality starter horn – it makes playing more fun. Good luck.
