I suppose that "use what works best for you" could be the end of this, but one should also explore "use what works best for others" as well. These others, of course, include the conductor, other members of the orchestra and, quite importantly, the others in the brass section. There should be some discussion within the section to arrive at the desired timbre. This is perhaps a more extreme example, but imagine if a trumpet section played Beethoven's Egmont Overture with one rotor trumpet and two pistons. Wouldn't be so kosher.
