This is a followup to an e-mail somebody sent me regarding my low fee that I posted for tuba lessons on my website. I'm a 23 year old tuba player working on a Master's degree in Music Ed. at Columbus State University in Georgia. Until a couple of months ago I never taught lessons, but my instructor at the University, Don Strand, told me that I should get into it. I sent out flyers to all of the schools in my county advertising Tuba Lessons for 5 dollars. I did this because I wanted to see if I could get more than a few students to teach and I thought the low price might attract some people. I ended up getting one middle school student. My question is how much do you charge and what do you base it on? Is it experience? Playing ability? People you've studied with? If you were somebody like me, still in college, not much experience, and the most difficult piece you ever played was movement 1 of Edward Gregson's tuba concerto, how much would you charge?
