Are not the technical choices part of the musical interpretation?
Is the music hampered when those technical choices intrude?
Can't technicians of any field talk about technique? I engage in considerable shop talk with other photographers, for example, even though the image is paramount in my thinking (and their's). Technique serves art but does not create it. On the other hand, the lack of technique can completely undermine the art.
