I am certainly not trying to discredit you...
Do you disagree that the playing-angles of the two models differ?
Surely if the 982 model had a longer 'pipe, the receiver would reach as far around the bell as the 981 model?
The fact that you can special-order (or could about a year ago) a 981 with the original low-leadpipe WITHOUT any alterations to the body of the tuba should give an answer also.
As I see it the two models have the exact same bodies bar the marching rings.
These are the facts as I see it.
How do your opinions differ please?
