I tried for a while to make a 1-1/2G work on my Besson, but the dad-gum thing's just too long. If Klaus is right and my tuba chops are too flabby for euphonium, then the Mead is even more strongly to be recommended for tuba doublers--it will play a good 15 or 20 cents sharper without me doing anything different. I also find that it gives a more characteristic euphonium sound, too. The Bach was too trombonish for my tuba ears.

I prefer the SM3, but I sometimes fool around with an SM4.
