A lengthy thread occurred on the other main tuba list a few years ago. I provided some info from a co-worker who has a MS in materials science (metalurgy). After watching the running Q&A dialogue for a while, I concluded I would never be willing to spend any real money for such a procedure. I saw enough info posted to leave me with the strong feeling that there was no proven scientific merit behind the practice. You might go hunting for the thread in the archives of the other list.
Any metalurgists on the BBS who would care to comment?
