That's a sort-of reasonably-controlled test...and the "inconclusive" results are about what one would expect.
A BETTER (not perfect) control would be to have a bunch of trumpeters try it out AFTER an extremely thorough cleaning and fill out a little black-in-the-spaces survey.
Then, with NO ADDITIONAL CLEANING (unless to put it back at the same "cleanliness" as before), freeze it. AFTERwards, have all of the same folks try it again withOUT them knowing that it was the same trumpet, nor that it was frozen.
