Gil Corella, to name one example, can play higher than I can think on his CB-50, so I think you are safe there.

My answer is always keep going, but make sure you extend in the low direction with as much energy and focus, and that you never consider your high range "there" until it is there every time, with excellent tone. Within those constraints, the higher you can play, the more securely you can play what's on the page.

As to where most pros are, I have heard three top professionals have trouble with the high G# in the Bydlo, when playing F tubas known for their high range facility. Having it in the practice room and having it under the hot lights is two different things.
