I recently had a conversation with Mark Tetreault (Toronto Symphony) re studying with Oscar Lagasse (Mark is originally from the Detroit area.) Mark said that the one thing he remembered most of his studies was that Legasse would have him slur EVERYTHING. Lagasse's moto was "if you can't play it slurred, you can't play it."

I remember Fred's shop being called Meyers when I lived in Ann Arbor in the sixties (it was in downtown Detroit then.) The thing that will always stick out in my mind about that store was shopping there for a horn right after the '67 riots. ALL the sales people were wearing side arms.
