I asked the question about what materials you are using to see if the materials being used today are the same as when I was your age. Some are and some are not. It appears that some of the materials used by your teachers does not emphasize the musicality of playing but rather mostly technique. Don't get me wrong, playing notes fast is also good, but unless you sound musical, the fast stuff gets lost.

Here are the materials used when I was a kid:
Blazhevich - 70 Studies or Etudes, whatever it's called
Kopprasch - 60 Studies
Pares - Scale studies
Bordogni/Rochut - Melodious Etudes for trombone
Arban - trombone book
Tyrell, Vasiliev, and others I don't remember.

The emphasis was always on playing the exercise musically. Try it sometime with a Blazhevich or Kopprasch. Make an unaccompanied solo out of the exercise and that will 1) make it more fun to play and 2) teach you to play musically. Ask your teacher to help you make an exercise music and not just an exercise.
