Thinking about this a little more, I think the problem that I have with the accomp. parts is that they SOUND like piano parts. Before I knew that Pictures was originally written for piano, I did not have the fainted idea that it had been transcribed. It was simply too complex and interesting--the amount that the piece would lose going back to piano was (for me at the time) unfathomable. The Webern accomp. parts are the opposite.
