cleaning out the horn

Hey everyone. Back in the day of 8th grade, we took a milk carton amount of water, poured it in the bell, and spun the tubas to get all the gunk that had gotten into the tuba. Of course, those were school horns, so we probably could be getting hamburgers out of the tubas because of the 6th and 7th graders who enjoyed treating the bell like a basketball net. Do you guys think that this is a good way to get everything out of the tuba(like metal shavings from the factory and "gunk" from tuning slide grease and such), or do you guys have any other methods that you could share with me??

All my thanks,
Kevin
