As far circular breathing coming in useful, Don Harry uses it while playing the Bach Cello Suites. For those of you who have heard these, you know what a treat it is. Because cellists don't have to breathe for sound production, the musical lines go on forever. As tubists, we do not have that luxury, but circular breathing does help us closer to that ideal.

Also, rumor has it that Don Harry won an audition partially because of holding the D for 18 bars in the Mahler 1 solo without breaking the sound.
