I need some advice from some of the more seasoned professionals. I am in the market for a new horn and I would like some opinions on what type to get. I have always played mirafone BBb and CC tubas (and a 3/4 Yamaha in college). My playing career revolves primarily around teaching and solo work with the occasional church or quinteet gig. I like the looks of the Kalison Daryl Smith and the MW 2145 but I'm wondering if my needs might be suited better by a large bore F or Eb horn. The MW 182 looks pretty good to me. I have never played Eb or F tuba but fingerings don't bother me, I'm just concerned that I won't be able to play some of my old material on the higher pitched horn and that I won't be able to get a little heavy with my tone when I need it. Any comments?
