The 36J is, always has been, the 4-valve, front action 6/4 tuba. I've never seen it otherwise. I would be interested in variants but I haven't seen any.

If Taylor has top action Conn tubas with regular pistons (not the oval port), they are 34J's, if 3 valves it's the 30J. Or maybe... they have the "school" horns that Conn made.

If they have the short-action valve, it's the 2X series.

Now if somebody will show me a 36J OTHER than the "Grand Orchestral 36J" I'll know what the heck Rob P-M was talking about in the first place.
