It was taped in 1966, and the legendary CSO brass were all in their prime. It's a study in perfectly tuned chords. Anyway, while I love hearing F tuba in an orchestra on many things, in my opinion, Nielsen 4th cries out for the weight of a CC tuba. If you want a gentler approach, then just play a little lighter...but on a CC. I've played it on bass trombone with three different orchestras (and I get to play it again in two weeks), and have always sat next to a CC tuba.
